Minutes for May 13, 2021 Board Meeting via Zoom conferencing
Present:Board members Megan Taylor, Kandy Dubuque (Presidents), Patrick Gallagher (Vice President), Hal Rooks (Treasurer), Tress Connolly (Secretary), Susan Rooks, Linda Falken, Kay O’Connell Jeff Vogel (Library Director), Diana Farnsworth (Librarian), Leslie Wilson (Librarian), Christina Hansen (Library Board of Trustees Liaison)
Presidents Kandy Dubuque presided and called the meeting to order at 2:02 p.m.
SecretarySusan stepped in as acting secretary for April. She sent the minutes to the Board on April 9. Megan moved and Kay seconded a motion to approve the April minutes. They were unanimously approved by the Board.
Treasurer’s ReportHal sent the Treasurer’s reports to the Board on May 8. Linda moved and Susan seconded a motion that they be approved. They were unanimously approved by the Board
News AnnouncementsKandy announced that the Library received a $30,000 donation from the Anacortes Library Foundation.
Newsletter Kay said the deadline for submissions to the Newsletter is June 13.
Old BusinessMembership ReportPatrick reported that there are 78 current members: 50 individual memberships and 28 household memberships. He added that the membership list is in good shape. Patrick sent out a letter in April to 180 members who had not yet renewed their membership and to people who had previously donated to FOL. This netted about 40-50 responses. Although some on the donors list sent a contribution, not many joined as members. Susan, as acting correspondence secretary, sent acknowledgments to about 50 members or donors for their contributions.
New Business FOL Trunk Book SaleMegan spoke about the upcoming FOL Trunk Book Sale on May 22 from 10-1 in the Library’s parking lot. Four Board members will have a general selection of books for customers to browse and buy. Kandy will be cashier. The event will be publicized by posters in some downtown stores, on the FOL and Library websites, and in the Library’s newsletter. In addition, Patrick will send an email to members. Patrick raised the question why the Board had not been asked to approve the Sale. Tress seconded his concern stating that all future events should be brought to the attention of the full Board.
Farmers MarketThere was a discussion about the Farmers Market as a venue for FOL to sell books. Diana offered to ask her contacts about the feasibility of this. Kandy moved and Linda seconded a motion to have Diana do so. The motion was unanimously approved.
Library UpdateLeslie talked about the recent $10,000 STEM Grant from Shell. She, Diana and Jeff are buying items that will be used for programs at the Library when having groups is possible. They will first be assembling STEM kits that families can check out for use at home. These will be launched as part of the Summer Reading Program. Jeff reported that 3,000 magazines in digital formats will be available through Libby/ Overdrive thanks to the Anacortes Library Foundation Grant.
