The Art Committee of Friends of the Anacortes Public Library's formed in 2018. The Committee has conducted juried exhibitions of local art in the Friend's Community Room at the Anacortes Public Library. When in place the exhibited art enhances the Community Room, and a portion of the proceeds of any sales goes to the Friends for their work in support of the library. Hundreds of visitors to the Community Room per month view the art.
Before each exhibition, artists living in the 98221 zip code are invited to submit their two-dimensional art for consideration. Artists Cynthia Richardson and Lanny Bergner initiated the first exhibit which ran for four months. The recent exhibits, featuring twelve or more artists, have run for three consecutive months.
An artists’ reception is held in the Community Room on the opening Saturday of each new exhibit. At the reception the public is invited to meet the artists, to view the artwork selected for the exhibit, and enjoy refreshments. The art is also available for viewing when the room is unused at certain hours during the weeks the exhibition is mounted.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic there are no viewing hours and no further exhibits are planned for 2020.
